New York Bar Mitzvah

I flew over to New York last weekend to photograph a Bar Mitzvah in Manhattan.  Here’s a sampling of the day’s events.

Locations: Private Residence; UN Millennium Hotel; United Nations HQ, New York, NY.

The view from their apartment next to Central Park:

This was actually the third ceremony for the New York Bar Mitzvah.  The first was in Israel, and the second on his Hebrew birthday.

The Bar Mitzvah is a huge Yankees fan.

I love capturing genuine moments like this:

I only had one shot at this.  Security escorted me away from the edge after this shot. 🙂

The video presentation featured the Bar Mitzvah interacting with celebrities including Kelsey Grammer, Andre Agassi, Bob Costas, Phil Simms, Boomer Esiason and several others.

Several songs were performed by an a cappella group.

thanks leah! i was escorted away for safety reasons. remember, this is the united nations, so security is extremely high. i had already breached the perimeter they set up so i could use the balcony rail as support for the long exposure. security came as i was setting up for another exposure. i didn’t use a tripod at this event.

Kevin, these pictures are great! Love the ones of the city, especially the night time shot! I guess you’ll go to any lengths to get a great shot like that! 🙂 I love looking at all your pictures – you have such a wonderful eye!
